Pumpkins

The agriculture in the Willamette Valley is very diverse. That's a field of pumpkins on the horizon.

Amtrak Cascades

Rob took the Amtrak Cascades train from Eugene to Portland. This view is looking west toward the Coastal Range. It was a beautiful morning. This trip was a big contrast to Rob and Jane's ride through the Alps in Switzerland.

Breakfast Time

Dee Dee and Rob dropped Pop Pop off at the dining room before heading to the train station where Rob caught the train to Portland. The food at Sheldon Park is great, and Pop Pop has a good group of meal companions.

Sheldon Park

Pop Pop is getting settled in his new apartment at Sheldon Park. He moved in on Monday, September 20, and he's quickly learning his way around. It helps to have his comfortable recliner. What a difference a few days can make!

Family Gathering

Pop Pop and Dee Dee were happy to welcome Rob and Dan to Eugene. Pop Pop was in the hospital after a fall that was followed by a couple of painful nights at home. The care in the "Clinical Decisions Unit" was great.

Nate is gradually getting more comfortable with people other than his mommy. Here Grandma gives him his morning bottle.

Up the Stairs!

Nate loves to climb the stairs. Just leave the gate open, and he'll be headed up in no time.

On our flight home we passed over a mountain range in Greenland.

Golden Pass

On Tuesday we took the Golden Pass train line from Montreux to Interlaken. The sights were amazing.

Lake Geneva

We took a boat like this from Montreux to Ouchy, the port for Lausanne. We enjoyed some wine beside the lake after we arrived.

Lunch in Montreux

We stopped for quiche and a glass of local wine at this tea room in the old town of Montreux.

Chateau de Chillon

On a rainy Monday morning we visited Chateau de Chillon, which is just east of Montreux. This picture is from the top of the keep, the highest point in the castle. By late morning the sun was peeking through the clouds

Train to Bern

We took a bypass through the mountains on the way to Bern. The views were beautiful.

The Congress Ends

On Friday we gathered outside the ETH (the Congess venue) to take trams to the farewell dinner. This university has 24 Nobel Prize winners. Albert Einstein is one of them. He was a student here from 1896 to 1900. On Saturday afternoon we walked by his apartment in Bern.

Rhine Falls

At the end of our excursion we made a stop a the Rhine Falls, which are northeast of Zurich.

Organic Lettuce

This afternoon we visited a very large organic vegetable farm. This is a field of lettuce that will soon be ready to ship to supermarkets.
