Rob was out in Oregon last weekend for Dee Dee's 90th birthday. Baby Paloma enjoyed the celebration.

Frescoes
Ancient ruins generally are dull colored, but Roman homes (of the rich) had colorful frescoes in almost every room. The first photo is of a fresco from Livia's villa. The second is a fragment from the wall in the Villa Farnesina.

Luthier's Workshop
We couldn't resist stopping to look in the window of this luthier's workshop as we walked home one evening.

Vatican Museum
We spent Monday afternoon at the Vatican Museum. The Egyptian statues were amazing. We especially liked Anubis, a jackal in a yoga, and the Sumerian cylinder seals that make an impression in clay.

The market next to our apartment is open every day except Sunday. Pasta, spices, and fresh produce catch our eyes.

Den Haag by Night
Jane arrived in Den Haag this afternoon. After a fine dinner, we walked through the town and passed through the courtyard of the Ridderzaal where the Dutch Parliament has its opening meeting each fall.
